Use this free tile calculator to plan a home-improvement or DIY project from the measurements and product information you already have.
HomeCalc shows the formula behind the result and keeps product-dependent assumptions editable where possible, so the calculator can match the material, package or supplier you actually plan to use.
Enter the project area and tile dimensions. HomeCalc calculates tile count and adds your selected waste allowance.
FREE TILE ESTIMATOR
Tile Calculator: Tiles, Square Feet & Boxes
Estimate how many tiles and boxes are needed for a rectangular floor or wall area.
Estimated result
Calculate tile count from tile size, not just room area
A tile estimate needs both the project area and the face area of each tile. HomeCalc converts the dimensions to a tile count, applies the selected allowance and can translate the result into boxes when package information is supplied.
project area ÷ tile area × allowance = tiles required
What to check before using the result
- Use the actual tile dimensions, especially when nominal and manufactured sizes differ.
- Pattern layouts, diagonal cuts and borders can increase waste.
- Do not subtract tiny obstacles unless they meaningfully reduce the tiled area.
- Buy matching dye-lot or production-batch material together when appearance consistency matters.
The same 100 sq ft surface can require a small number of large tiles or hundreds of small tiles. Area alone cannot tell you the number of pieces; tile dimensions are essential.
