How many bags of concrete mix do you need?

Bag count comes from two numbers: the total concrete volume and the yield of one bag. HomeCalc calculates the project volume first, applies the selected allowance and then divides by the approximate yield for the chosen bag size, rounding up to whole bags.

Bag weight is not the same as concrete volume
An 80 lb bag does not produce 80 lb of volume; it produces a stated volume of mixed concrete. That yield is the figure that belongs in the calculation. HomeCalc uses planning yields for common bag sizes, but the product label should win when the numbers differ.

Why does the calculator round up?
Concrete mix is sold in whole bags. If the calculation needs part of another bag, that bag is still required to reach the target volume.
Can 40 lb, 60 lb and 80 lb bags have different yields?
Yes. Larger bags generally produce more mixed volume, so fewer are needed for the same pour.
Is bagged concrete practical for a full cubic yard?
It can require many bags. For larger pours, compare the bag count, handling effort and cost with ready-mix delivery.
